Have you ever noticed you rely on others for your own happiness? Do you have more unhappy days than happy days? Do you feel you aren’t getting what you want out of life? If you can answer yes to any of these questions you may be searching in all the wrong places for your happiness. I know I have searched for over 15 years for happiness in places where it could never be found. I was a major people pleaser. If someone else wasn’t happy I wasn’t happy. This led me to living day after day, month after month, year after year in unhappiness. You see over the last few years I (after I got into recovery from my alcoholism) I came to realize nobody can base their own happiness on whether someone else is happy or not. If you try to do that, like I did for so many years, you will never have true happiness. Over the past few years I have come up with some very great tips for happiness and I am sure many others have used these in their life as well.
What are some tips that can help you to bring true happiness into your life?
Do you often wonder whether you will ever be truly happy? If you truly want to be happy there are some tips that can help you to bring this type of happiness into your life. First of all, there are some things you might want to think about. For many years I had gone in and out of depression and my anxiety kept worsening. For the longest time, I had no idea why my life was in this downward spiral. I kept waiting for others to make me happy and finally one day I realized that was just not going to work for me anymore. I set on my own journey to find happiness. It has been a long one but I’ll tell you what, if you can do some of the things that I have to find happiness, then hopefully you can find your own true happiness too.
You must decide what you want to have in your life. When you are on your path of figuring out what will make you happy, you must decide what you want to have in your life. If you are currently engaging in relationships that are unhealthy and are holding you back you may have to decide to end these relationships. Before I found my true happiness, I was clinging to many relationships that just kept making me feel bad. This was not healthy for me at all. Some of the things you may want to think about when deciding what you want to have in your life include what job you want, the type of people you want to have in your life, the things that you enjoy and more.
To achieve true happiness, you must reduce the amount of stress that you have in your life. There are so many people who live with high amounts of stress in their life. One of the reasons for this high stress level is what was just mentioned above, trying to base your own happiness on whether others are happy. I have gone many years with higher stress levels as well. You see, I never set goals for myself and when I did I didn’t try very hard to reach them. This made me feel like I couldn’t accomplish anything. Little did I know that the stress I had at the time is what was causing me to avoid reaching my goals. Now that I have a stress management plan, I am much more in touch with working on my goals.
Believe in yourself. You will find that you are happier when you believe in yourself. I have always, until about a month ago, had very low self-esteem and very low self-confidence. I had never believed in myself or the things that I could do. About a month ago, I started saying positive things about myself and telling myself I was in control. I started combatting negative thoughts that I had and I started believing in myself. Now, I am much happier than ever before.
When you are living your life, think about the type of happiness you want. Do you want someone else to hold your happiness in their hands? Do you want to be responsible for your own happiness?
