The Necessity of Personal Time

Have you been so used to getting up and going every day? Have you always taken everything so seriously? Do you find yourself feeling bad for even thinking about taking a day or even an hour for you? If you have then you have a difficult time taking personal time. There are many people who are like this that there are many reasons for it. Some of the reasons are being a workaholic, being guilt-tripped in the past for taking this time and more. I have felt bad about taking personal time, me time, for the past 15 years (maybe even longer), and a couple of months ago I hit a breaking point. I started yelling and getting irritated at everyone I knew for reasons that I couldn’t understand at the time. I realized I was going to lose everyone if I continued to live in this manner. I needed to take time for me if I was going to take care of all my responsibilities as well. Sometimes personal time could just be a short moment to yourself, but more recommended is to take at least half an hour a day to yourself.
Why is taking personal time a life necessity?
Life can’t be planned all out, and the more you go without thinking of yourself, the more stressed you will get. For years I have kept on going ignoring my feelings, talking myself out of taking time for myself and just plain old giving up on working on me. I had other responsibilities that needed to come first. Little did I realize that not taking time for me caused the other areas of my life to suffer. I wasn’t as proficient at work, my relationships were falling apart, I wasn’t being the parent I should have been, and more. I had to make changes and start taking personal time if I wanted a happier future.
Personal time allows you time to reflect. When you are living your life and trying to perfect all areas of your life you are bound to lose yourself. You are bound to have increased levels of stress and more overwhelming feelings too. If you take personal time you will get time to reflect. You can think about whether you need to be doing all of the things that you are in your life. You can think about what you want in your future and what changes you need to make to do the things that you do want.
Personal time allows you to relax for a while. I have always thought that I needed to take care of everyone else. I thought that by taking care of everyone else I would be happy because I enjoyed taking care of them. Needless to say, that isn’t how things panned out. A couple of months ago I started to realize that I resented many people in my life because I was taking care of them instead of myself. That wasn’t fair to them or myself. Once I started taking regular personal time I was able to relax. I was able to feel for myself for once and it felt great. Allow yourself to relax and just take a break from the chaos you call life for a bit.
Personal time allows you to do enjoyable things. Thinking about what you want out of life isn’t a crime. In fact, it helps you and others in the process. If you can take personal time you can enjoy things more in life. You can take part in sports that you love, shopping and other things that may be fun for you. When you are able to enjoy life more, you are happier (this is shown in the way that you carry yourself and others can see it too).
Life is full of ups and downs and twists and turns. Life doesn’t have to be as difficult as many people try to make it. I know for years I always thought that everything was so complicated. I was the one who was making things complicated. I made everything more difficult than it needed to be, and one of the main reasons for that was because I couldn’t think clearly. Since I have started taking personal time I have been able to clear my mind and come up with easier solutions to things in my life. Everything has seemed to come around and go much smoother for the most part since I have had this time to myself. It feels great. Try it and see your life change in front of your eyes.
