Benefits Of Being A More Authentic Person
Firstly, if you are looking into personal development, personality type, or psychological state management, you need to take a look at our free MP3 designed to 'tune' your brainwaves. To get it, click here.
Have you ever heard the phrase “be yourself” as you were growing up? It is something that everyone tells everyone else, that is until the person we are telling actually does it and for some reason we don’t like the person who is being themselves anymore. Maybe this is because we are trying to control people by getting them to conform to our negative expectations. Therefore when they suddenly exhibit much personal growth and are no longer afraid to be themselves then they are no longer in our control.
Did you catch the word “conform”? In order for a person to feel completely free with who they are as a person they must be willing to break the rules that society’s expectations have other them. This may cost you a lot of friends if your “friends” only liked you because they could keep you in a box. People who are not afraid to be themselves are nonconformists. Often times they end up becoming loners because that is easier than trying to fit in with a bunch of superficial people who try to conform to society’s image of how one is supposed to act. Maybe no one really chooses to be an introvert, they just get tired of trying to fit in.
The process of becoming more authentic involves spending quality time getting to know yourself intimately and deeply. The results are you have an overwhelming sense of freedom; the freedom to be yourself. You become more open-minded about the world around you and more tolerant toward people with different beliefs and lifestyles. You may even become a liberal (hopefully a balanced one).
Those who are have the courage to be themselves are freer people. They usually have less sickness because of the stress they would be under by always trying to conform. Free people are also more in tune with their emotions. That is to say that they have a higher emotional intelligence. Those who are free to be themselves have a more improved sex life. Sometimes up into their 80’s. This is because they are more relaxed. They may even have more children since tension cuts off sperm production for men and eggs for women.
Part of being free is not being afraid to question anything. An authentic person will have plenty of time to do this because they will likely be alone most of the time since they no longer conform. Plenty of time for a little self-examination to get to know yourself more. As opposed to the study that most people who don’t feel free tend to have to take more medications just to keep themselves healthy.
There is a direct correlation to those who are free and authentic to those that are healthy verses being sick all the time.
Another surprising advantage to being free and authentic is that they are more charismatic. People like them and respect them. Whether they want to have anything to do with them is a different story. This may have more to do with people wanting to avoid someone they are envious of than anything. It often does not have anything to do with the authentic person. Those who make a sincere commitment to personal growth and self-development have a tendency to be more honest; mainly with themselves and with those around them. This is what attracts people to them. It can also cause many to be repelled too. In some cases a person can be both attracted to the person’s authenticity and repelled at the same time.
Those who are not as authentic struggle with life and never really know what they want. Deep down inside they are afraid of themselves, or afraid of their own power they might possess. Because of their repressed emotions they may be on many psychotropic drugs or even medications for physical ailments. Likewise those are more authentic know what they want out of life and are no longer afraid to go and get it. This is mainly because they will never be happy in settling for less again. They don’t want to go back down that road.
Maybe this is another reason why the vast majority don’t choose the path of personal growth and self-development. Because once you get on it you can never get off. You will end up back where you came and it will never be the same again.
