Unless you have grown up under a rock as a kid, you have probably heard the phrase “knowledge is power”. This article is going to take a look at how raising our level of consciousness through empowerment can help us overcome many of life’s difficulties; particularly those tied to mental health issues such as anger, depression, and anxiety.  Image By:  David Hawkins

Cause of Most "Problems"

  • Insecurity
  • Low self-esteem/lack of self-worth
  • Lack of confidence
  • Poor social skills and inability to connect with others.

Mental illness is basically summed up as repressed emotions that are incorrectly managed by your own mind.  That being said anything you can’t control will control you. Until you learn to master it you may have to be dependent on psychotropic medications, or medications for physical illness since many cases of mental illness are manifested as physical symptoms.  If you have ever seen a consciousness scale, it goes up to 1000. The lower levels on the scale are usually tied to emotional issues; i.e., anger, fears, major depression, bipolar disorder, and even Schizophrenia. So how do you go about raising your consciousness to overcome these challenges?

Many people spend years or decades in Twelve Step groups, only to continue to struggle with the same issue over and over again. Even Albert Einstein said the secret to being a genius is knowing how to simplify, but I think it is safe to say that it isn’t human nature to automatically simplify things.  The reason that most humans have such a hard life is because they have a natural tendency to over-complexify.  So how do you go about raising your level of consciousness? The key word is “empowerment”. Since the phrase of the day is “knowledge is power”, then empowerment comes with educating yourself. It is widely known that the most educated are the real leaders of society, and often the most persecuted. This is why many geniuses struggle with mental illness and end up being loners in life.

Part of self-empowerment is learning to accept and love yourself the way you are. Once you learn to do this, then the opinions of others don’t matter so much to you anymore. If you don’t have any social connections you can still be happy living a life of solitude, especially if you are conscious of the fact that some higher meaning and higher purpose is with you.

By the way, I believe that raising your consciousness happens only through a combination of personal effort and the grace of some unseen force - Perhaps you could call that "God". Accepting the grace of a powerful force for good is something that makes us more humble and raises our consciousness even more, and those who have a high level of consciousness of about 600-900 are the most loving, compassionate, and non-judgmental people you will ever meet. To have a consciousness level of 1000 you would have to be near perfect, and some researchers believe that the only two people who achieved the 1,000 level of consciousness are Jesus and Buddha.

Mid-range consciousness is about 400-600 and is much like average intelligence. These people have compassion as well and are also the most ambitious people you will ever meet. That is because people in the lower stages of consciousness don’t have the energy to be ambitious because they see life as a constant struggle and are controlled by chronic health issues. Many of these health issues are mental problems such as anger from past trauma, anxiety which is grounded in fear, and depression to the point of being so overwhelmed as to want to commit suicide.  However, many people are in this lower stage of consciousness, also known as “the dying consciousness”, and they are typically dependent on medicine to help them cope with life better. If they do not take medicine then they may smoke heavily or become dependent on other alcohol and other drugs.

Raising Your Consciousness

Raising your consciousness requires two principles of human spirituality: Mindful meditation and positive affirmations. An observant person will also take note that much of humanity is dominated by negativity. By choosing to focus on the positive you can literally change the structure of your brain. Once you do this you have access to the power you need to navigate life’s waters more successfully. You can overcome issues like depression, anxiety, and anger.

By learning to let go (and let God) to live in the moment, you gain a healthier self-image. As the wisest King in the Old Testament (Solomon) once said “accept your lot in life”. Your lot doesn’t have to be negative though. As you focus more on the positive, you experience the Law of Attraction, which repels negativity and replaces it with positive. You develop the energy to be more ambitious, and through being more ambitious you make a better life and career for yourself. You are also empowered enough to not be controlled by your business so you can focus on other areas of life that are more important than making money, but very importantly, you will come to realize that you have options. This is quite freeing, because one of the main causes of suffering is feeling trapped - Trapped in your job, a bad relationship, or life in general. Once you realize that you can you choose to be where you are, what you are doing, and that you are free to leave the show at any time, you may realize you have more options than you thought. This is a freeing experience.

Over time you may become a free spirit and recognize that you have a hard time working under somebody else's structures and rules.  This is okay because by the time you make it to this stage of consciousness you will likely be so free that you will become an entrepreneur and even be repulsed by the thought of punching into a time clock or enslaving yourself to someone else’s payroll for up to 40 hours a week.

While everyone talks about climbing the ladder of success, there is nothing worse than climbing a ladder only to discover you are leaning against the wrong foundation. If you are going to climb a ladder, choose the ladder of consciousness that comes through educating yourself about life and how to live it more abundantly. An abundant life isn’t necessarily about having more money, knowledge, or even more sex.  An abundant life in its simplest form is being free from the negative thought patterns that once controlled us and contributed to our anger, anxiety, fears, and depression. Just remember to not forget where you came from as you move up the ladder of consciousness to the higher life. That will keep you humble.
