The greatest freedom in the world is the freedom to be yourself. This is also known as the freedom of self-expression. However it is easier said than done. It seems as if everyone is too busy trying to keep pace with the rest of society that no one has time to even get to know themselves, let alone be themselves. This article is all about how taking time for personal growth can help you to embrace your own unique calling in life and appreciate what gifts you have to offer the world. More than one type of individual expression While it may not seem like it everyone in the world is unique. Tradition has taught us that there are only two types of intelligence; books smarts and street smarts. Of course more emphasis is placed on book smarts even which leaves the common sense types out in the dark thinking they don’t have all that much to offer because they are not smart enough. This is the leading case in overall unhappiness which is found in depression and many cases of mental illness. If you are committed to personal growth and understanding general psychology it will take guts to live differently compared to the rest of the world. First off they may look down on you for being a nonconformist. They may even call you liberal. Through all of that deep down inside they do respect you, they just aren’t going to admit it. There are actually eight different kinds of intelligence which range from cognitive, spatial, mechanical, logical/mathematical, creative, academic, analytical, and so on. Social scientists will likely discover more as time goes along. It takes a great deal of work to get to know yourself through the process of personal growth and self-development. You have to be willing to know yourself and love yourself and embrace you for who you are. Dare to be different even if you look “special” In the past if a child was seen as different they were referred to a Psychologist and diagnosed with a developmental disorder, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder or ADHD, simply because they did not learn like everyone else. As society begins to stress collaborative learning and co-working together those who are different have the growing inability to connect with others and get left behind. In their early and secondary education years this may cause them to be placed in special education classes. Many who choose the path of personal growth will likely fall behind even further because the basis of mindfulness in meditation is to live in the moment. It slows your life down while everyone else who is chasing after material things are actually speeding up theirs. Never fear though as most of these will regret it when they get older and have no meaningful relationships. If you can find one or more lifelong friends to share your journey with then you are blessed indeed. The ability to embrace your own unique gift to the world is the hallmark of self-development and personal growth. Rather than devote your life to working all the time you can focus on the creative talents that your life has to offer. You likely will not have a large following but if your life can make a difference in only a handful of people then that is all that matters. The people who your life does make a difference to will overflow into a handful of people in their lives as well. It’s a process called Operation Multiplication. Your calling is to be you Ever notice that the people who make the biggest difference in society are the ones who choose to stand out apart from the crowd? You have to have experienced a lot of personal growth to achieve this. Most will respect you to a point even though outwardly they will appear to look down on your because they wonder why you are not chasing after material things like they are. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with material things, only when we make these the dominant focus of life. There may be a saying that whoever dies with the most toys wins but the truth is that person is still dead. You never saw a hearse pulling a U-Haul behind it did you? While people talk about finding yourself and you’re calling they usually associate it with a vocation that makes money. If it is not a six figure income then they figure that’s not their calling because that is for poor people. Your calling is to be yourself. To get to know yourself for who you were created to be.
