Dr. Rick Hanson is a very well-known author who has a great knack for connecting with his audiences. Not only does he have a Ph.D., but he is New York Times best-selling author too! Part of Dr. Rick Hanson’s personal development plan is to reach people through his writing, and he has done just that and so much more. He is the author of four amazing books and other reading guides as well. The four books that Dr. Rick Hanson has written are Hardwiring Happiness (which is available in 14 different languages), Buddha’s Brain (which is available in 25 different languages), Just One Thing (which is available in 14 different languages), and last but not least, Mother Nurture. What is Dr. Rick Hanson all about? Dr. Rick Hanson is a well-known psychologist and he has taught others about the life skills they need, taught well-being tips, how to grow emotionally and how to practice different helpful techniques. These techniques apply to all aspects of life including family life, social life, relationships, parenting and much more. Dr. Rick Hanson also enjoys meditation, and he has practiced in many traditions. He was actually on the Spirit Rock Meditation Center’s board for 9 years from 1999-2008 and even led sessions weekly in San Rafael, California. What does Dr. Rick Hanson like to do? While Dr. Rick Hanson has a great career, and he is very well-known, but he is still human, and he has many wonderful interests. In fact, Dr. Rick Hanson enjoys sailing, reading books, rock climbing, traveling and his social life with friends and family. Who is Dr. Rick Hanson and what does he do? Dr. Rick Hanson grew up in a great family near Los Angeles. While he was usually shy growing up, he went to UCLA when he was only 16 and then he even graduated with summa cum laude during 1974. Due to his excellence at UCLA, he was one of the four in his senior class to be a part of the Alumni Association for UCLA, which is quite an accomplishment. Dr. Rick Hanson is also a husband and a father. When he became a parent he realized that parenting wasn’t what it seemed. It was much more complicated. Although it was an enjoyable journey, he and his wife wanted to find a way to explain the truth about parenting to others and help them through their own journey. This is when he wrote Mother Nurture, and this book really talks about the issues that parents and families face and how to really bring the family together. It is much more detailed and in depth than most other books for parents. His other books are based on his personal development plan as well. He has had many of his writings published in various well-known newspapers and magazines too. What happened after he graduated from UCLA? After he left UCLA, he reached success by founding a seminar company, worked on probabilistic risk analysis for a mathematician, and even worked as a managing consultant. This all occurred within a few years after he had left UCLA. His dedication and his commitment to his personal development plan just kept on growing. Meanwhile, he was taking on courses to get his Developmental Psychology Master’s Degree from San Francisco State University. Then during 1991, he had gotten his Clinical Psychology Ph.D. from the Wright Institute. At the Wright Institute he completed his dissertation called “Gratifying Control: Mothers Offering Alternatives to Toddlers.” What did Dr. Rick Hanson do for work and what does he do with his clinical practice? Since Dr. Rick Hanson started his clinical practice he has been able to work with families, couples, adults, children and many others. He does assessments on the psychological well-being of his clients. He also assesses the different aspects of his client’s lives including performance at school and work, their temperament and more. He takes his knowledge and expertise from his work as a school psychologist (for many different schools) and talks about this knowledge with parents, children and even development specialists too. For a long time, Dr. Rick Hanson was helping the Board of FamilyWorks (this agency is full of resources for families in Marin County, California). He has also been with the Saybrook University as a trustee too. Dr. Rick Hanson has lived a very fulfilling life, and he still is going strong.
