And it's interesting that integration, from the scientific point of view, may in fact be . . . and I put an underline under "may," but so far all the search supports this hypothesis . . . that integration is the basis of well-being. And so as a parent, when you learn the techniques of how to promote integration in your young child or for adolescents, how to help them promote integration themselves, you get this incredible rounded principle as a parent. It's very simple. Integration is the basis of well-being. Integration is the linkage of differentiated parts, and we learn ways to promote that. When there's chaos and rigidity in the family or inside of you or inside of your child, that means the integration is compromised for that moment.
And then you as a parent, knowing that, that's the whole model. When you feel chaos or rigidity going on, you can actually explore where is integration impaired, and you're given techniques on how to promote integration in a very practical way with your kid as an infant or your kid as an 18 year old, you actually have this cross-lifespan way as a parent to be ready with all these techniques, including parenting from the inside out, where you integrate yourself. So you're ready to go inside, you're ready to go relationally, and it's a whole package you have with these four books that are basically about mindsight, insight, empathy, and promoting integration.
Erik: That's great. And for those who are watching who are interested in getting a little sample of what these techniques and strategies look like, what can we share with some folks who may have children right now, to go home and try right away if their child is upset or withdrawn or there's some kind of conflict in the family right now?
